The
Fox Classic Car Collection has just taken delivery of its most
recent exhibit. It is the V12 Enzo Ferrari. The Enzo is the latest
in the line of super cars built by Ferrari and closest road car
to a Formula 1.
This
car can go very fast reaching 0-100 kph in 3.62 sec. And for
the petrol heads the V12 engine produces a thunderous top end
of 660 bhp at 7800 rpm with a top speed of 350kph.
The
car is special and so is the color – it is painted in Linfox
colours. It is known to be the only Enzo produced with its unusual
colour scheme of a yellow roof.

The
Fox Classic Car Collection consists of approximately 130 vehicles.
It is a remarkable Australian collection. Up to 80 vehicles
are exhibited at any one time. The collection includes the Bentley,
Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Rolls Royce makes
of car. The design, production details, engine features and specifications
are of interest to all car enthusiasts.The collection includes
cars like the 1937 Mercedes 540K Cabriolet B (featured in this
frame) that was formerly owned by the German Ambassador to London
prior to the outbreak of World War II.
Also
in the collection is a Mercedes Cabriolet 300S reputed to have
been owned by Bing Crosby.

Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder 1955.
The 1955 Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder is the only car of its series to come to Australia brand new.
Imported by Norman Hamilton it won the 1956 Ardmore Tourist Trophy in New Zealand driven by Sterling Moss. It gained first place in the 1500 cc class New Zealand Grand Prix driven by Frank Kleinig and was also successful in numerous Australian hillclimb championships.
The 550 will always be remembered as the car that James Dean was driving at the time of his death. This particular vehicle chassis is numbered 56. James Dean’s chassis was number 55.

The
1957 Porsche RSK Type 718 was part of the on-going evolution
of the Le Mans racers.
It
differed quite dramatically from the early Spyder incorporating
a space frame chassis.
The
car was third overall in the 1958 Le Mans 24 hours race.

The
collection is housed in the Queen’s Warehouse located in
the Melbourne Docklands precinct. The building itself has an interesting
history being a former customs building and tenanted by the Department
of Treasury.

The
Sir Henry Royce Foundation Gallery is one of three in the world.
Located in the Queen’s Warehouse it features some significant
Rolls Royce and Bentley vehicles. |

The
1957 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster was developed from the famous
300 SL Gullwing. Although they shared many mechanical components
they were very different. The 300 Roadster was a more versatile
car as it was provided with a hard top and a soft top.
Famous
300 SL owners were Fangio, Pablo Picasso, Elvis Presley,
Clark Gable and Glen Ford.

The
engine features a fuel injected six cylinder producing
215 BHP at 5800 RPM with a top speed of 270 Kl/m per
hour.
This collection also houses 5 of the roadsters which is one less than the Mercedes Benz Museum.

The
Fox Collection incorporates one of the largest Mercedes Benz car
collections in the world. In fact outside the Benz Museum in Stuttgart,
we have the largest collection of classic and rare Mercedes Benz
Gullwing vehicles in the world (4). The Mercedes Benz Museum has
5 Gullwings. |

In 1998 the Jaguar XJ220 was presented to the world at the Birmingham Motor Show. A total of 350 of this type of car was produced even though some 1400 orders were placed .
With a 3.5 litre V6 engine the car was capable of producing 500 BHP and a maximum speed of over 320 KMP.
This was purchased ex factory by Mr Lindsay Fox AO in 1992.
